Korean Folk Villiage

On Veteran's Day (while Jana was still here but after Cheryl had left) we drove to the Korean Folk Museum, which is a fascinating (theme) park with lots of reproductions of houses and events and activities done in traditional Korea.

On the way there we drove through this intersection which had no traffic light, directional signs, no anything that would help direct traffic. All they had was a sign that said, "A lot of accidents happen here." Duh. We didn't get a picture of the sign, but here's the intersection:

We got to the park and ate 설렁탕 (sollong tang, delicious soup) at the traditional type restaurant.


We hiked up to the Buddhist Temple (with real monks and stuff) they had there, and that was fun.


It was just a gorgeous day and the park was beautiful.




They do a lot of filming here, as I'm sure you can imagine with all the traditional buildings and settings. In particular, one very famous show called "대 장금" or as it is called in English "Jewel of the Palace" was filmed here. It's a historical drama mini series about the first woman physician for the king of Korea. I have seen it and I love it, especially since she starts out as a chef so they spend a lot of time cooking! Yum. Anyway, they had lots of signs posted throughout the park explaining which scenes of the show were filmed where. Here are just a couple of them:


We saw several exciting performances such as Equestrian Feats (their words), See-Saw Tricks, and Tight-Rope Walking. Matt took some videos of these performances, but I'm having a hard time posting videos on my blog right now, so here are the links to them:

(As a side note, the tight rope walker did not want to take a picture with us, as he is not a silly circus performer; he's a serious artiste, a registered National Treasure of Korea. Just so you know.)

After all the cool performances we went to the part of the park with rides. There was hardly anyone at the park, so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. Here we are enjoying ourselves:






Yeah, we had a lot of fun on that boat ride.

The Flogging of Jana

Jana and I didn't realize that the camera was rolling, so if we could do it again, it would be much better. As it is, we were just messing around and laughing too hard to really get a good flogging. Next time will be much much more exciting.

Oh, Happy Day!

A couple weeks ago, Matt was having a bad day. To help cheer him up, we decided to buy a chocolate cake at Paris Baguette. We also bought some Happy Birthday letter candles, but since it was no one's birthday (i.e. not Jana's, not Matt's, not mine, and not our friend Lee's) we decided to just celebrate a "happy day." And a happy day it was.
